Green Day cancel remaining live dates in 2012 and early 2013

Green Day have cancelled all their scheduled live appearances for the remainder of 2012 and early 2013.

The announcement comes after Billie Joe Armstrong checked into a rehab clinic last month following an onstage meltdown.

“Obviously the timing for this isn’t ideal, but Billie Joe’s well-being is our main concern,” Mike Dirnt said in a statement on the band’s website. “We are happy to say that Billie Joe is doing well, and we want to thank you all for the outpouring of support and well wishes that we have received, and we can’t wait to see you all again soon.??”

The band have also announced that the release of the third part of their album trilogy, ‘¡Tre!’ will be pushed forward to December 11, 2012. It was due on January 14, 2013.

“We feel bad we have to delay our tour, so to make up for it we want to give our fans the music earlier than we had planned,” said Tré Cool. “If we couldn’t be there to play it for you live, the least we could do was give you the next best thing.”

The tour dates affected include their scheduled club tour of the US that was due to kick off in Seattle’s Paramount Theatre on September 26, finishing up in Tempe at the Marquee Theatre on December 10. In addition, they have pulled all appearances booked in for January and February 2013. Rescheduled dates will be announced shortly, according to a statement.

The second installment of Green Day’s ‘¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, ¡Tré!’ album trilogy is expected to be released as planned, with the second LP, ‘¡Dos!’ coming out on November 12.

The band are still due to play a huge UK stadium show next summer, headlining London’s 60,000 capacity Emirates Stadium on June 1, 2013.

Green Day for Sonisphere 2012?

It has been announced that Organiser Stuart Galbraith says his team are already talking to Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blink-182 and Green Day as potential headliners for their 2012 event. I will post more info on this as soon as I get it!

New album?

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong reveals that the punk heroes have already started work on the follow-up to last year’s 21st Century Breakdown.

Despite making fans wait five years in between 2004’s American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown, Armstrong promises that the as-yet-untitled follow-up will be completed sooner rather than later.

The vocalist says that the punk trio used their downtime wisely during their European tour last October, spending their time off between arena shows in recording studios across the continent rather than sleep their days away in luxury hotels.

“We did some demos in Berlin, some in Stockholm, some just outside of Glasgow and some in Amsterdam,” he tells K!. “We wanted get [the songs] down in some early form.”
